About INTELECOM
Since our founding
nearly 35 years ago, INTELECOM has been a leader in the design,
production and distribution of higher education and adult
education courses for distance learning
and classroom applications.
A
Vision for Distance Learning
In producing courses,
we do not duplicate the instructor's role. Rather, we use
the unique qualities of diverse media and technology to provide
a comprehensive introduction to core academic and adult education
subjects including History, Oceanography, Physics, Philosophy,
Management, Business Law, Personal Health, Geology, Government,
but also English as a Second Language, Citizenship and Family
Literacy.
INTELECOM
courses combine broadcast-quality video with textbooks, workbooks,
study guides, faculty guides, and customizable online components
which can then be offered using a variety of distance learning
methods and technologies including broadcast, videotape, DVD,
CD-ROM and online delivery.
Serving California's
Community Colleges
In addition to
production and distribution, INTELECOM serves as the managing
and fiscal agent for The Southern California Consortium for
Community College Television – a distance learning consortium
which has grown from 18 member colleges from its founding
in 1970, to today's membership of 20 Community College Districts
representing 39 southern California community colleges. Our
member colleges enroll over
30,000 students each year in courses provided by INTELECOM.
We also provide our member colleges a variety of consultative
services related to their distance learning programs.
Distance Learning
and Adult Education
Since 1996, INTELECOM
has been a leader in the production of distance learning courses
for adult basic education in the areas of English as a Second
Language, Civics/Citizenship, Family and Basic Skills Literacy.
Adult Education courses from INTELECOM Crossroads Café,
On Common Ground, Madison Heights and Lifelines -- combine
dramatic and documentary television with workbooks, teacher
resources and support materials to provide a rich, context-based
approach to instruction. In collaborating with state and federal
agencies, and by adhering to the highest standards of instructional
design, production and implementation, INTELECOM has helped
to break down barriers to adult learning -- providing important
new opportunities for learning to scores of unserved, underserved,
and at-risk populations.

Since 1987, when our groundbreaking
series Mechanical Universe was awarded the Japan Prize, INTELECOM
productions have enjoyed tremendous international appeal.
